Another vessel aground due to wind and waves

CEBU, Philippines - Another vessel ran aground in northern Cebu due to strong winds and waves last Sunday. No one was reported injured in the incident and there was no damage to the vessel, according to Philippine Coast Guard.

Cargo vessel LCT 208, carrying 24 crew members, was unloading its cargo of sand and gravel when strong winds and waves caused the mooring line to snap and the vessel drifted and ran aground in the shallow seas off Madridejos town in Bantayan Island, Cebu.

The vessel was moored at Kaongkod Wharf when the incident happened.

The Cebu Command of the PCG immediately assisted the vessel and is currently waiting for the go-signal from vessel owner, Cebu Sea Charter Inc., for the towing operations through Tug 118.

LCT 208’s captain Danilo Tiangha has yet to submit his marine protest before the Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, PCG Central Visayas head Commodore William Melad said  they have also yet to receive the marine protests from two other vessels that ran aground last January 15, the M/V Joyful Stars near Lapu-Lapu City and the M/V Our Lady of All Nations near Bohol.

M/V Joyful Stars, bound for Cebu from Maasin, Leyte, was drifted by strong winds and waves into the shallow portion off Bantolinao Point while M/V Our Lady of All Nations also bound for Cebu from Bato, Leyte, got stranded near Danajon Point, northern Bohol.   (FREEMAN)
