Capitol medical mission benefits 1,500 seniors from Pinamungajan

The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - At least 1,500 indigent senior citizens from Pinamungajan town yesterday benefited from the free medical mission of the Provincial Capitol.

They were the first batch of beneficiaries of the "Halad kay Lolo ug Lola" project, a 2008 program launched during the time of third district Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia as governor of Cebu.  Yesterday's medical mission, however, was led by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, a known political enemy of Garcia, and Provincial Board Member Grecilda Sanchez.

Magdaleno Valdez of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office said at least 60,000 indigent senior citizens from all over the province will benefit from the program.

The services include free medical check-up, free x-ray, and laboratories. Each senior citizen also received a bag of goodies from the provincial government.

The "Halad kay Lolo ug Lola" team will bring the same services to the indigent senior citizens in the towns of Asturias and Alcantara next month. — (FREEMAN)
