Provincial Capitol to send "hope and rehabilitation" —themed Sinulog float
CEBU, Philippines - After several years of not having a float for the Sinulog Grand Parade, the Provincial Capitol has decided to have one this year which would carry a theme of "hope and rehabilitation."
"There is going to be a float. It was discussed Thursday by the governor and vice governor," said Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said that the last time the Provincial Capitol mounted a float was 10 years ago when it won second place during the Sinulog Grand Parade.
She, however, reiterated that the float this year would be simple.
"Careful ta karon sa paggasto sa kwarta but we also want to be involved. This our way of paying homage to Sto. Nino," she added.
Magpale explained that they are considering "Bangon Sugbo" as the theme of the float which entails recovery of Northern Cebu after super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in the area in November last year.
Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora presented before the governor the design of the float but he has yet to come up with the cost.
Aside from the theme, Magpale explained that the float would also signify their partnership with the Cebu City government.
Governor Hilario Davide III earlier announced that the province is willing to co-manage with the Cebu City government on the operation of Fuente Osmeña Rotunda.
Meanwhile, Magpale disclosed that they are limiting the point of destination for the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo to 14 stops which is set on January 22 to 24.
"Mag-stay longer man gud mi sa Mantalongon (Dalaguete)," she explained.
Capitol is also limiting the participants to 150 and each should pay P14,000 as registration fee for the three-day activity.
The Commission on Audit last 2012 called the attention of the Provincial Capitol on the expenses of the Suroy-Suroy program in the past years. In their reply to the COA, Vice Governor Magpale who was then acting governor in December 2012 assured the COA that they will make the necessary changes to minimize expenses of the tourism program.
