Motorcycle driver charged for death of 7-year-old boy

CEBU, Philippines - For allegedly driving without license, a 23-year-old man is facing charges before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for a violation of Republic Act 4136, otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

Chender Pepito, a resident of Baja-baja, Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu, on December 31, 2013 at around 11:55 p.m. was figured in a vehicular accident in Pagutlan, Tayud that killed seven-year-old boy.

PO1 Raymond Lleve, traffic investigator told The FREEMAN that the filing of complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damages to property against Pepito is set to follow.

“We are still preparing for the affidavits, once completed we will file this,” he said, adding a complaint for a violation of RA 4136 was firstly filed particularly Section 5 (unregistered motorcycle), Section 19 (driving without license) and Section 34 (absence of headlights).

Lleve said due to the injuries of Pepito, he was currently confined at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) for medication. A police officer, he said was on standby at the said hospital as the latter was under arrest.

Pepito was driving his motorcycle heading southbound when it accidentally hit the tricycle driven by Rex Brian Pilapil, 27, a resident of Pagutlan. Rex Brian was about to left turn.

Because of the said incident, the seven-year old son of Rex Brian identified as John Ryan died after he was badly injured.

The accident also injured Rex Brian’s other son, Jorex, 9 and Cristituto Lauron, the back rider of Pepito. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
