Rugby boys in the city

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - It is the duty of parents to take care of their children and it is the duty of government to make sure that children enjoy their rights as provided by law.

Among the rights of children, aside from being cared for by their parents, is to be provided with food, education and to be protected from any kind of illegal activities.

But it is very sad that there are some parents who do not take care of their children for reasons such as lack of maturity and financial problems.

When Police Officer Armando Radoc was still assigned in Cebu City, he was shocked when he found out that the mother of a child that they caught in the act of sniffing rugby along the port area knew about what the child was doing but tolerated it anyway.

“Wala lagi ko makatoo kay giingnan ko sa inahan nga gitugotan na lang nila nga mag-rugby ang ilang bata kay aron dili magsigi og pangayo og kwarta aron ipalit og pagkaon,” Radoc said.

Another rugby boy named Jeffrey shared, “Kon mag-rugby mi sir, dili kami bation og gutom.” Rugby boy Noel also said that he was convinced to sniff rugby because of its good smell. “Humot man gud kaayo simhoton,” he added. (FREEMAN)
