CEBU, Philippines - Although contracts of all its outsourced employees will end on Dec. 31, the Cebu Provincial Government has assured there would be enough medical personnel in district hospitals during the New Year celebration.

Gov. Hilario Davide III said that he would confer with Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) officials to ensure the availability of doctors and nurses in attending to emergency cases like firecracker-related injuries.

“Hopefully wa’y mangasamad sa pagpabuto, but mangandam gyud ta ana,” he said, adding that the province has sought to stop outsourcing and would be opening positions for regular employees.

IPHO head Cynthia Genesolango earlier assured that medical personnel in district hospitals in the province are “on call” during the holidays.

She said that they would still serve during New Year under a new contract, this time, with the provincial government.

Capitol is set to determine today the doctors and nurses who would be and regularized.

Davide further said that there is a possibility that other outsourced employees would be absorbed upon the recommendation of their respective department heads.

“Posible nga ma-absorb if maayo ang ilang performance,” he said.

Meanwhile, some Capitol department heads, including Provincial General Services Office Head Eva Encabo, are leaving Capitol for after opting for early retirement.

Possible replacements for the vacant positions are still being determined with the convening of the Personnel Selection Board.— (FREEMAN)
