CEBU, Philippines - With the youth sector going to be unrepresented in the council, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants to hire outgoing Sangguniang Kabataan Federation chairperson John Philip Po as consultant to handle the Cebu City Youth Development Commission.

“Kana si Po, nakakita ko ani niya that he has grown up and he has known what he is treading, not being affected by politics with no stories of corruption. He projects impartiality,” Rama yesterday told reporters.

However, it all depends on Po if he is willing and if he has time, said Rama.

Po, for his part, welcomed the idea of the mayor in getting him as consultant for him to be able to continue representing the youth in the city government.

“It is a good idea nga ganahan si mayor to get me as consultant. Sa akong capacity, I’m thinking of crafting youth development program but that is something that I have to think about and decide on ASAP,” Po said.

Albeit being grateful for the recognition, the outgoing SK city chairperson is taking into consideration finally devoting more time and focus on finishing his degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing.

The youth leader pointed out the need for CCYDC to have a “working arm” centering on physical, mental and spiritual enrichment of Cebuano youth sector.

Po stressed that one of the programs he wanted to implement as an SK official is having his office as an umbrella organization with linkage to private youth organizations in the city being able to provide assistance to different activities geared towards youth development.

Rama, during yesterday’s press conference, stressed that he has never

favored abolition but reformatting of the SK making it “grow as an

organization.” (FREEMAN)
