DOE delivers 12 gen sets to Capitol

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Energy-7 has delivered 12  generator sets to the  Cebu provincial government intended for the two islands in the province.

DOE-7 regional director Antonio Labios said that a total of 170 gensets were given to various areas in the Visayas affected by super typhoon Yolanda.

In Cebu, the eight gensets are intended for  Bantayan Island where most electrical posts were down as Yolanda pummeled the island.

Bantayan Island is composed of Bantayan, Sta. Fe and Madridejos towns, wherein majority of its houses were flattened by the super storm.

While the remaining four gensets are intended for Camotes group of islands composed of the municipalities of Poro, San Francisco, Tudela and the isolated island town of Pilar.

He said that each genset has a capacity of 2 to 3 kilovolts ampere (kva), which is enough to power government centers and other important establishments.

Earlier, Labios said that all major lines or backbone lines in all the towns and cities of Northern Cebu were already lighted after two weeks of having no power.

Although repairs of the lateral lines and mountain barangays of these towns are still ongoing.

The DOE has emphasized that generation, transmission, and distribution facilities must be all together operational for power situation in the affected areas.

Likewise, the DOE continues to appeal to Luzon power consumers to exercise energy efficiency and conservation to be able to provide ample supply of power in the Visayas via the High-Voltage Direct Current line that interconnects the Luzon and the Visayas grids.— (FREEMAN)
