Two dead in freak accidents

Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A carpenter died after his own electric grinder hit him on the neck while a farmer met his death after losing his balance and hitting his head on the ground.

Arthur Cubar, 28, was reportedly fixing tiles inside his house in Barangay Vito, Minglanilla when the electric grinder he was using suddenly malfunctioned.

The blade reportedly flew and hit Cubar's neck, almost beheading him.

Murito Cubar, Arthur's brother, found the victim bathing in his own blood and already lifeless, with the grinder near him.

The victim was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police are still investigating what really happened, although the victim's family does not suspect any foul play and believes the death of Arthur was an accident.

Meanwhile, Apolinario Llena, 28, of Barangay Tabayag, Argao town, died after he hit his head hard on the pavement when he lost balance while carrying a sack of fertilizer.

Llena was reportedly on his way home and was carrying one sack of fertilizer when his feet slipped.

The victim, who was alone at that time, lost his balance while the sack he was carrying also fell on his face subsequently hitting his head on the ground.

Police are also investigating the incident to discount possible suspicions of foul. — (FREEMAN)
