Jessa Agua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Another inmate from the Leyte provincial jail who escaped at the height of super typhoon Yolanda was arrested by authorities in Cebu last Monday.

Anthony Arillas, who reportedly has a murder case in Leyte, was nabbed by the operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) -7.

This was confirmed during yesterday's regular meeting of the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC).

"Diri ra sa Minglanilla nato nadakpan. Gitug-an sa iyang parents unya willing ra man sad siya. Ang parents ang mi-surrender sa ilang anak gahapon and there was no resistance man," NBI supervising agent Greg Alguso told reporters.

Arillas already spent seven years in jail and was encouraged to turn himself in to authorities so as not to forfeit his served sentence, Alguso added.

According to the NBI, Arillas boarded a C-130 plane from Tacloban to Cebu.

Arillas is the first escapee that NBI-7 captured but Alguso stressed that their office in currently obtaining all the necessary profile information of remaining detainees that are still large.

"Naa nay uban nga nag express nga willing ra sila. So far, this is the first one nga nadakpan sa NBI," said Alguso, adding that it is better for the detainees to surrender so that the sentence that they have served will not be put to waste.

"We are calling on those nga gusto mubalik para mahuman ilang kaso aron tarungon nila. Kay once mu-escape man gud ka, back to square one na. Forfeited imong tanan na-serve, if ever. It will aggravate your case," Alguso said.

Apart from the NBI, other police offices have earlier arrested some escapees as well. The captured detainees will be processed by authorities in Cebu and will immediately be turned over to the provincial jail facility in Leyte. — (FREEMAN)
