The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Metropolitan Cebu Water District is set to bid out the P161.5 million bulk water supply project for Compostela-Liloan-Consolacion Injection Points.

The MCWD has desired to purchase a minimum volume of 18,000 cubic meters of water per day for one year and 35,000 cubic meters per day the next year until 20 years contract.

The approved budget for the contract for one year is P24.59 per cubic meter or a total of P161,556,300.00.

The winning bidder is expected to deliver within six months from the contract signing.

It scheduled the pre-bid conference tomorrow at 1:30 in the afternoon at the AGM Technical Conference Room, 6th Floor MCWD Building, which shall be open to all interested parties who have purchased the bid documents.

A complete set of bidding documents may be purchased by any interested bidder starting from October 3, 2013 to November 4, 2013 after payment of a non-refundable fee of P100,000.

Bids must be submitted on or before November 5, 2013 at 9:00 in the morning and thereafter, the bid opening shall follow on the same date.  The proposed Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project’s Preparatory Technical Assistance (PPTA) earlier recommended to MCWD six additional water sources if the project pushes through.

These are from Danao, Luyang water from Carmen, new wells, new bulk water contracts, desalinated water and additional water which will be recovered through non-revenue water (NRW) reduction.

MCWD General Manager  Armando Paredes said that MCWD envisions to increase its service capacity to 60 percent in 2020 from its current 38 percent service coverage.

The Ayala-led Manila Water Consortium is now developing the P702 million Carmen Bulk Water Supply Project, a joint venture between the Province of Cebu.

The landmark water supply project shall supply 35 million liters per day of potable bulk water sourced from the Luyang River of the municipality of  Carmen.

The project will partly provide the water demands in the northern and central portions of Cebu province. Currently, less than 50 percent of these areas are being served.

The bulk water supply project is also expected to improve the current groundwater condition in the province which has deterio-rated. — (FREEMAN)
