Senior citizens get additional P2K aid from Cebu City gov’t

CEBU, Philippines - Around 60,000 senior citizens in Cebu city will receive P2, 000 this coming weekend.

This was announced yesterday by Mayor Michael Rama during the opening of senior citizens month at Plaza Independencia.

The distribution of the P2,000 financial assistance will be this coming Friday for those coming from the north district while those for the south district will be released this Saturday.

Last March, the Cebu city government also released P6,000 as financial assistance to 58,000 senior citizens.

Rama said he wanted to employ better distribution system this weekend. “We will be having a better template. Better than the original concept,” Rama told reporters.

Rolando Llaguno, chief of the Office of  Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) said “a little over 60,000” senior citizens will receive their cash aid from the city government this weekend. 

“Despite the increase of about 2,000, we are constantly cleaning our list eliminating those not qualified, duplicated entries and diseased,” Llaguno said, revealing that while they were clearing their data, they found scammers who were listed in more than one barangay and have collected assistance from the city government.

“There was one senior citizen who was listed to three barangays namely Agsungot, Pung-ol Sibugay and Sirao payroll. When we found out about it, we invited him for questioning. Turned out he conspired with someone from Freedom Park,” he said.

Llaguno stressed that their office is serious in cleaning the list to remove “tikasan” and scheming individuals. — (FREEMAN)
