P1.2 M robbery Police: Suspects reside in Carcar
CEBU, Philippines - Following the investigation of the police on the robbery that took place last Thursday in Carcar city where two robbers took P1.2 million cash from a bank messenger, authorities now believe that the suspects are both locals of the city.
Chief Insp. Ricky Delelis of Carcar City Police Station said they have the names of the two suspects who live in Carcar city but will withhold the information pending follow up operations.
“Unti-unti nang nabibigyang linaw ang kaso,†Delelis said, adding that the two alleged robbers are involved in previous robbery cases.
Marvin Cababan, 36, was transporting money from a piggery farm to the bank (name withheld) where he works as a messenger and a janitor when two men on a motorcycle held him up in Barangay Valladolid on Thursday at around 11 in the morning.
He said that in fear, he handed over the sling bag that contained the money to the armed men who wore full face helmets.
Delelis said they are not yet discounting the possibility of an inside job as the robbers may have worked with people who knew that Cababan was bringing with him the amount that day.
He further disclosed that there’s a third individual who is linked to the robbery which led them to identify the two robbers who they are now hunting down.
While they are looking at the angle of an inside job is still considered, Delelis said they cannot hold Cababan in police custody unless the bank management files a case against him.
VIFCO, the piggery that owned the P1.2 million cash, can also file a case against the bank management, he said.
Carcar City Police will meet again with Cababan tomorrow, as well as the owners of the piggery and the bank, for further questioning.
The Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office will be helping in the investigation. (FREEMAN)
