32 erring drivers face arrest — Citom
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) is now tracking the 32 drivers who have cases filed against them for heavy traffic violations with fines amounting to P1.6 million.
A bench warrant of arrest was released last August 12, 2013 by Judge Monalisa Tecson of Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 1.
At 4:00 in the afternoon yesterday, the Police Traffic Group and Citom arrested one of the 32 drivers that were subjected to a bench warrant identified as Darwin Lareta in Bulacao, Cebu City,
Citom Operations Chief Joy Tumulak told reporters that their office is now coordinating with Philippine National Police Traffic Group and traffic enforcers in tracking down the remaining traffic violators.
“Nag-organize na mi’g usa ka grupo nga maoy mogukod sa mga drivers nga dakponon,†said Tumulak.
Tumulak said that 32 drivers violated City Ordinance 801 or the Traffic Code which includes No Stopping, No I.D. and Disregarding Traffic Sign (DTS).
Tumulak reported that one of the 32 violators has four cases out of 350 traffic violations that were already filed before the MTCC and amounting to P139,800 penalty and were committed since 1999 until this year.
Another violator has also four cases filed out of 195 violations in 2009 until 2013 with penalty amounting to P46,000.
Tumulak advised also the motorists to be keen enough with traffic violations when a motorist from Cebu City with a violation of no helmet also got a bench warrant.
He said that Citom and the City Legal Office are very serious in filing cases against all traffic violators.— /GMR (FREEMAN)
