CEBU, Philippines - A man died while three others were injured after car rammed a multicab that in turn struck bystanders in Barangay Lawaan I, Talisay City, Cebu yesterday dawn.

Malcom Fernandez, 33, succumbed to severe injuries in the body because of the incident.

The police identified those injured as John Cesar Navarro, 27, of Barangay Lawaan I; Martin Moreno, 19, of nearby Minglanilla town; and car driver Jonalyn Canoy of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

SPO2 Nestor Canlobo, Talisay City Traffic Division chief, said Canoy was driving her Honda Civic Sedan (GGK 331) fast on her way to Cebu City when the incident happened.

Canlobo said that when Canoy reached Lawaan I around 3 a.m., she slammed into the back of a multicab (GCF 622) parked beside the road. Multicab driver Bentoy Labrador, 19, luckily survived unscathed.

Due to the impact, however, the multicab plowed into Fernandez and Moreno, who were sitting by the roadside, before hitting a parked elf truck (YAE 106) and finally stopping.

The victims and Canoy, who suffered cuts and bruises, were rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital. Fernandez was taken to South General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Canoy, who is still confined at the hospital, is being guarded by two Talisay City policemen until she is discharged to face what she did.

A criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injuries and damage to properties would be filed against her. — (FREEMAN)
