Citom implements moves vs night parking

Jessa Agua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In order to ensure access of fire trucks responding to fire alarms, the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) conducted operations against illegal night parking clearing narrow roads in fire prone areas.

CITOM Executive Director Atty. Rafael Christopher Yap said they received several complaints from firemen that narrow roads have been used as parking spaces making it hard for them to respond to fires in interior areas.

A special operation against illegal night parking has been implemented since July 16.

In a month of implementation, a total of 984 citation tickets were issued to erring parked vehicles, with each ticket costing P500.

For the same period, CITOM was able to collect P4.9 million but Yap emphasized that they are not focused on the income but in clearing roads for fire fighting vehicles to access even the narrow road.

“We want the motorists who would utilize the city streets to know that CITOM is serious with regards to conducting  operations regarding illegal parking,” Yap explained asking the public to understand.  (FREEMAN)
