Cebu grad tops medical board

CEBU, Philippines - Twenty-five-year-old Blake Warren Coloma Ang, a graduate of the Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM), topped this year’s Physician Licensure Examination with an 89.42 percent rating, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced yesterday.

Eighty-three percent or 1,834 out of 2,211 examinees passed this year’s medical board given by the Board of Medicine in the cities of Manila, Cebu and Davao earlier this month.

Ang, born on January 17, 1988 in Surigao City studied Nursing as his pre-med course at the Cebu Doctor’s University.

“Okay so now God has shamed me beyond all else. With my face down on the ground I claim not a single hint of glory for which all of this only to God belong. Allow me Oh Father to serve You all the days of my life. Allow me to be your instrument of grace to the people. Thank you,” Ang stated in his Facebook status after learning of the results. “All for God’s glory! It’s all about Him,” he added.

Alvin Christian Caminade-Borbon, also from CIM, placed seventh with a score of 88.17.

The other topnotchers are Daniel Yenko Guevarra and Abdelsimar Tan Omar II from the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila, both in the No. 2 spot with an 88.75-percent rating; (3) Ruth Divine Daguro Agustin, Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health (ADMU SMPH) - 88.67 percent; (4)Timothy Lee Tang Lee Say, University of Santo Tomas (UST)  - 88.5 percent; (5) Abegail Chan Ceralde, De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLS-HSI) and Co-Neil Rebanal Relato, University of the East- Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC) - 88.3 percent; (6) Jason Sta. Ana Arboleda, UP Manila - 88.25 percent; (7) Donn Romell Marcelo Bernabe, UST and Alvin Christian Caminade Borbon, CIM - 88.17 percent; (8) Karen Joyce Go Chua, UP Manila - 88.08 percent; (9) Pamela Marie Blanco Imperial, ADMU SMPH - 87.92 percent;  and (10) Paul Anthony Orencia Alad, UP Manila - 87.83 percent.

Four schools – UP Manila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, ADMU SMPH and CIM shared the top spot among the best performing schools with a 100 percent passing rate.

The schools were followed by UST (99.53 percent), UERMMMC (98.26 percent), West Visayas State University-La Paz (97.14 percent), Far Eastern University- Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (94 percent), Saint Louis University (93.94 percent), Davao Medical School Foundation (90.32 percent) and DLS-HSI (89.53 percent).

The members of the Board of Medicine who gave the licensure examination were Dr. Edgardo T. Fernando, Chairman; Dr. Jose Y. Cueto, Jr., Dr. Restituto C. De Ocampo, Dr. Florentino C. Doble, Dr. Miguel L. Noche Jr. and Dr. Mildred N. Pareja, Members.

PRC said the venue and date of the oathtaking ceremony will be announced later. Registration for the issuance of the professional identification card and certificate of registration will be on Sept. 2 and 3, 2013.

It added that those who will register are required to bring the following: duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, current Community Tax Certificate (cedula), one piece passport size picture (colored with white background and complete name tag), two sets of metered documentary stamps and one short brown envelope with name and profession and to pay the Initial Registration Fee of P600 and Annual Registration Fee of P450 for 2013-2016. – Marigold P.
