Junjun among TOCA recipients

CEBU, Philippines - Governor  Hilario Davide III leads this year’s recipients of The Outstanding Cebuano  Award (TOCA).

Davide will be awarded on Saturday for his achievements in the field of government service.

He will be joined by former San Francisco mayor Alfredo Arquillano for environment (risk reduction), Romulo Aying for entrepreneurship (general services), Junard Chan for entrepreneurship (poverty alleviation), Maria Fema Duterte on environment (forest protection and preservation).

Other awardees are former senator Rene Espina in the field of public service, William Maceren on management, Andy Uy on entrepreneurship, Rosa Suan on public service (barangay level), and Dr. Stella Ygoña on public health services.

TOCA award aims to honor outstanding Cebuanos on their contributions in the community and in nation building.

The award categories are extended to Cebuanos who excel in their own fields of endeavor such as in entrepreneurship, management,  government  service, public service, engineering, medicine, accountancy, law practice, judiciary, community service and other special awards    

The TOCA awarding ceremony will highlight 31st anniversary celebration of DYDD’s “Tingog Sa Lungsod Program” on Saturday night, August 17 at the Sacred Heart Center.

Last year, Engr. Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez-Zaballero was awarded in the field of engineering-invention. She was elected member of the Provincial Board last May 13 elections.

She was also joined by businessman Glenn Anthony Soco in the field of entrepreneurship. Soco was the rival of Zaballero’s father, late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. in 2010 elections.

Soco run again last election but lost to Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.

Cebu City south district Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa and Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella were also awardees last year when they were still city councilors in the field of education and public service, respectively.

Other awardees last year were Gavino “Borgy” Abejo Jr. in the field of contracting; Erik Miguel Espina in the field of journalism; Loreto Maratas in the field of community service; Capt. Pompie Mondejar in the field of shipping services; and Engr. Vicente Vosotros in the field of engineering. — (FREEMAN)
