Minor killed, 2 farmers injured in separate shootings

CEBU, Philippines - A minor was killed while two farmers were injured in three separate shooting incidents in the towns of Argao, Carmen and Danao City last Friday.

Rickjim Alberio, 17, was found dead by his grandfather in a farm field in Sitio Upper Tigaotigao in Barangay Canjule, Argao town at around 4 p.m.last Friday.

PO3 Benjamen Gerogaza of the Argao Police Station told reporters that Alberio's body had numerous gunshot wounds. They believed one or two assailants were behind the murder.

Initial investigation revealed that Alberio was on his way home after a recent trip to Cebu City.

Hours after Alberio's arrival, the victim's grandfather noticed his grandson's dead body while he was out visiting the fields.

Police remained clueless on the real motive of the murder as even Alberio's grandparents said that the victim has no known enemies.

Meanwhile in northern Cebu, two farmers are currently fighting for their lives after they were shot by unknown assailants in two separate incidents in Danao City and in the town of Carmen.

Noven Claren, 26, was shot twice by an unknown assailant outside his house in Barangay Puente, Carmen town at around 8 pm last Friday.

PO2 Jerome Quimque of the Carmen Police Station revealed that at the time of the incident, Claren was resting in his hut after a long day's work when he was called out by an unidentified man outside his house.

When Claren came out to check who it was, he was suddenly shot twice. The suspect fled after shooting Claren who was immediately brought to the Danao District Hospital but was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Police are still determining the real motive behind the shooting.

A few minutes after the incident in Carmen town, another farmer was again brought to the hospital after he was shot by unknown assailants.

Elderato Landero, 34, of Barangay Mantiha Uno in Danao City was also shot by an unknown suspect outside his house last Friday night.

Like the Carmen incident, Landero was resting with his family in their house when an unidentified man suddenly knocked at their door and asked the victim to come out.

Upon opening the door, Landero was then shot right at the doorstep.

Landero was immediately brought to the Danao District Hospital and is currently recuperating.
