City-owned vehicles may get less fuel

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government might be compelled to reduce the fuel allocations of most city-owned vehicles by September, except for the garbage trucks and police cars, if no supplemental budget will be approved by the city council.

General Services Office (GSO) chief Rolando Ardoza said that the city’s fuel supply is only good until the end of September. Ardoza said he already requested for an additional P45 million budget last March but no supplemental budget has been passed until now.

The council has appropriated P100 million budget for fuel in the Annual Budget. But Ardoza said only P88.9 million was used for fuel because the rest of the amount was allocated for lubricants.

Ardoza said there are 1,222 vehicles owned by the city government, including heavy equipment, barangay and police vehicles that regularly get fuel supply from the city’s depot.

Ardoza said the city has already reduced the fuel allocation for city officials from 300 to 200 liters every month.

According to Ardoza, he will be forced to recommend to Mayor Michael Rama to reduce further the fuel allocations of other city-owned vehicles expect the garbage trucks and police cars.

Each garbage truck gets at least 500 to 1,500 liters every month depending on the distance of the barangay to the dumping site in Consolacion. FPL (FREEMAN)
