Magpale’s aide named PENRO chief

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III has designated a new Officer-in-Charge for the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).

Atty. Chad Estella replaced Nerces Bispo starting last week.  Estella, former legal consultant of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, was detailed as executive assistant under the Office of the Governor prior to his new assignment.

Bispo is currently assigned at the Provincial Planning and Development Office. Davide however said he might take her in under the Office of the Governor where he could use her expertise in planning.

Davide earlier said that his administration’s thrust is for a balanced growth of the Province where development would go hand in hand with environmental protection.

“The serious threat that all these pose to our environment,” said Davide, referring to the robust growth of the urban cities where the natural environment is put at stake. “Unless we reorient our progress, this would do more damage than progress,” he said

In a recent event of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and PENRO which was his first speaking engagement since he took office, Davide highlighted the concern of the environment which he noted as an “issue of all times.”

He urged more organizations to join in the efforts of the government and other groups to protect the environment by planting more trees and by participating in other advocacy programs. — (FREEMAN)
