Danao mayor invalidates appointments by brother
CEBU, Philippines - Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito†Durano III has invalidated the appointments of more than 50 permanent employees issued by his brother, former mayor Ramon “Boy†Durano Jr.
Councilors Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca and Jorge John Cane confirmed the report saying that these employees did not go through the Personnel Selection Board.
Meca, the daughter of Mayor Durano, is serving as an ex-officio member of the Provincial Board as president of the Philippine Councilors League-Cebu Chapter.
“Ang ilahang appointment from the previous administration is invalid due to the fact nga wa mo-agi sa Personnel Selection Board,†Meca told The FREEMAN.
Cane said that records at the Human Resource Management Office show that since former mayor Boy assumed office in 2010, it was only in 2012 or shortly before the 2013 elections that he has constituted the PSB.
It was during this period that Boy filled up vacant permanent positions and promoted some employees.
Meca said the PSB did not also go through the Danao City Council in violation of the provision of the Local Government Code.
The executive and legislative departments in the previous administration were not working together because of the estranged relationship between the Durano brothers.
During the last May 13 elections, Boy lost in his reelection bid against Nito.
To recall, Boy did not also pay the more than 200 casual employees hired by Nito in 2012 resulting in the filing of charges in court. (FREEMAN)
