Amok died of severe head injuries

CEBU, Philippines - A medical examination revealed that the Overseas Filipino Worker believed to be mentally ill when he killed two women in Malabuyoc town last Wednesday died of head injuries himself.

Malabuyoc police chief Roseller Paller said that Cristobal Alaban, 31, died of intracranial hemorrhage secondary to traumatic head injury as per result of the autopsy conducted on his body.

“So makita g’yud na pagpamun-og gyud ang hinungdan namatay siya,” said Paller.

The municipal health officer, Paller said, conducted the examination and recommended  to have the body also undergo autopsy.

Paller proceeded to the PNP Crime Laboratory in Cebu City yesterday bringing with him the letter request to have Alaban’s body autopsied. However, Crime Laboratory chief, Dr. Nestor Sator, said the autopsy is no longer needed and that the post mortem examination result was enough evidence should Alaban’s family raise a complaint against those who mauled Alaban.

The Malabuyoc chief said he has instructed his men to look for witnesses to identify the people who mauled Alaban, shortly after he killed two elderly women.

“Tua na atong mga tawo didto sa area, nagsukitsukit na kung kinsa ang unang tawo nga nisumbag,” Paller told The FREEMAN. The potential suspects will then be invited to the police station for questioning and will face charges if proven guilty of mauling Alaban, he said.

The police station chief said they will look for Alaban’s maulers, even if no complaints have been raised by his family yet.

“Bisan unsa pa ‘na siya ka-makasasa, di man angay na kutloan sa iyang kinabuhi kay naa may balaod. Dakpon lang unta unya dalhon sa atong police station,” said Paller.

Paller further said they would rather focus as to who killed Alaban than delve into why he suddenly ran amok and beat his 64-year-old aunt Salustiana Devilleres and 76-year-old neighbor Leonila Paro to death with a shovel.

He theorized though that OFW, who just arrived from Saudi Arabia a few days ago, might have been drunk since he had allegedly been drinking since he arrived in the town.

“Makabuang baya nang magsige og inom samot na og way kaon, samutan pa og ibutang ta nag-take og drugas,” Paller explained.

After he killed the two women, the neighbors of Alaban mauled him and tied him up.

He was brought to the police station where he later collapsed and had difficulty breathing. He died on the way to the hospital.  (FREEMAN)
