CEBU, Philippines - At least 300 representatives from the private sectors, national and local governments, academe, non-government organizations and other stakeholders are expected to attend the 3rd Environmental Congress on June 27-28, 2013, at the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7, through its Environmental Management Bureau-7 is spearheading the two-day gathering.

Organized by the DENR’s EMB 7 and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines-Region 7 Chapter with the theme “Green Cooperation: Think. Operate. Save.” the convention aims to share experiences and success stories on environmental management particularly on water and air quality, toxic and hazardous wastes, solid wastes, water energy conversion, and resource conservation.

Isabelo Montejo, DENR-7 regional executive director said that this is part of the environment month celebration as they recognize the efforts and initiatives of the private or business sectors in making our environment healthier, greener, and cleaner.

Montejo, in a statement, said that this environmental benchmarking will define this two-day activity as it delivers the best practices so that local government units, industries and other sectors would gain knowledge and information for them to also follow or emulate.

Topics that will be discussed include Urban Sustainable Environmental Development Strategy in Metro Cebu, Urban Sanitation Systems in East Asia and the Philippines; Water Quality Management Area as Decentralized Mechanism for Water Pollution Control and Management; Wastewater Management and Development Bank of the Philippines’ Green Financing Program for Environmental Investments.

The convention will also highlight experiences, insights and best practices from CP Kelco Philippines on its solid and hazardous waste management; waste to energy conversion and resource conservation by CEMEX Philippines; hazardous wastes management of TMX Philippines Inc.; Taiyo Yuden Philippines’ water management and conservation program; air pollution control system of KEPCO SPC Power Corporation.

Also, 16 ‘green’ exhibitors featuring advanced technologies and services will be shown as well as updates on pollution adjudication board cases and compliances.—(FREEMAN)
