Temporary opening of Ciudad access to continue
CEBU, Philippines - Motorists will continue to enjoy the alternative rerouting heading to and from IT Park.
This is because the temporary opening of Ciudad Property access road will continue unless revoked.
“Yes, continue gihapon unless revoked,†said Atty. Rafael Yap, executive director of the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM).
CITOM opened the access road in May 23 and was originally set to run for a month.
He added that the alternative traffic scheme has so far yielded positive results.
“Positive ra man. Temporary pa (opening) kay naa pa man gamay modification ibuhat sa DepEd wall and we’re waiting on them,†Yap told The Freeman.
He added that the corner at the Department of Education’s Applied Nutrition Center will be improved “to facilitate turning movement.â€
CITOM is also waiting for final discussions with DepEd counterpart, who is currently out of town, for the improvement of the corner to accommodate smooth traffic flow.
They expect the final feedback in the coming week.
The provincial government, under then acting governor Agnes Magpale supported the initiative of CITOM aiming to decongest traffic along Salinas Drive and Gov. Cuenco Avenue.
The initial target was in March but was delayed pending a city council resolution.
Councilor Richie Osmeña authored the resolution which was passed late March.
These areas are the major access points to and from IT Park where business process outsourcing establishments thrive.
The special rerouting is open from Friday to Saturday 5 pm to 9 pm.
Vehicles coming from Archbishop Reyes or Blessed Pope John II Avenue in Barangay Mabolo can now avoid the heavy traffic congestion near TESDA regional office corner by taking Governor M. Cuenco Avenue where the Ciudad property access road is opened.
Those heading for Lahug or Busay may turn left at the Ciudad property and exit in either Wilson Street near JY Square Mall on Salinas Drive or Pasteur Street leading to Veterans Drive in Lahug. (FREEMAN)
