CEBU, Philippines - MCWD-AWG venture provides affordable water supply to 3 brgys
Residents of barangays Talamban, Bacayan and Pit-os will now have more access to affordable water with the bulk water supply project jointly ventured by Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) and Abejo Waters Corporation (AWG).
The memorandum of agreement, signed yesterday, meant that more affordable options for consumers will now be available with AWG to supply 4,800 cubic meters daily at a rate of P15.68 per cubic meter.
Consumers may now opt to switch from the current private service providers charging twice than that of MCWD’s.
The project will run for 15 years, supplying water to around 5,000 households in the three barangays.
The additional water supply will be injected to MCWD’s existing 300 millimeter diameter ductile iron distribution line in barangay Pit-os.
The government owned and controlled company launched the Pit-os-Bacayan-Talamban water supply project April last year.
The project, worth P54 million, included pipe laying as well as installation of stub-outs and fire hydrants.
This is expected to be completed within the month.
Until the project officially starts serving the three barangays, MCWD will continue serving residents through its two wells.
Well 34B yields 340 cubic meters while Well 34R provides 1,200 cubic meters.— (FREEMAN)
