CEBU, Philippines - More carnapped cars were recovered by police following the arrest of two women last Friday who are alleged members of a carnapping syndicate.

The Cebu City Intelligence Branch recovered a Toyota Vios sedan (YFR 920) owned by Bernard Guanni and a Hyundai Accent (YJQ 322) owned by Marlon Amante of Lapu-Lapu City Saturday afternoon in San Fernando town.

CIB head, Chief Insp. Romeo Santander, said the suspects, Gionna Marie Geolina, 36, and Maria Roselyn Olid, 40, told police that they pawned the two cars at P300,000 to P350,000 each to one Doroteo “Dother” Geocallo.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the suspects  accompanied them to Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando to recover the cars.

“Pag-abot namo didto wala gani na mikanaog sa sakyanan kay murag nauwaw tingale,” Santander said in a phone interview.

Police are yet to recover more vehicles and they are calling on other victims to appear at the Mabolo Police Station or at the CIB to file charges against suspects.

The two suspects were arrested as they were about to victimize another rent-a-car in Cebu City.

Their modus operandi is to rent a vehicle supposedly for their foreigner guests but they will pawn it.

Mabolo Police recovered a Kia Rio (YGD 133) and a Honda Civic (GNX 916) at a mall parking lot in Barangay Mabolo and a Toyota Vios (YJZ 470) was also found in Argao town last Friday.

Police has yet to find out how many cars the suspects had pawned since they started their illegal activity.

Chief Insp. Ryan Devaras, Mabolo police chief, said they are coordinated with other police units in Cebu City and Province for possible recovery of other carnapped vehicles.

The suspects will be facing estafa and carnapping complaints. —  (FREEMAN)
