MCCI supports Davide administration

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) expressed confidence that they can work closely with the Provincial Government of Cebu under the new administration of governor-elect Hilario Davide III.

MCCI president Philip Tan explained that whoever leads the administration, the businessmen will go as Mandaue City is under the jurisdiction of the Province of Cebu.

At the 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Plaza, Tan described Davide as an open-minded person and is not difficult to deal with.

He said that even Davide’s running mate, acting Governor and vice-governor-elect Agnes Magpale, is also close to MCCI.

“I find no reason why we cannot work closely with Jun-Jun Davide,” Tan said.

The Province of Cebu has been an active partner of the MCCI in their activities especially during the time of suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Garcia’s running mate in the 2010 elections, businessman Glenn Anthony Soco, is a member of the board of directors of MCCI.

Incidentally, Soco ran against Magpale in the last May 13 elections but lost.

Meanwhile, Tan expressed concern in Mandaue City which is being challenged by the issues of traffic and flooding.

Although Tan said that in the next few weeks, Mandaue City will have the most sophisticated traffic system in the major thoroughfares.

Tan reported that traffic systems in at least six major intersections are under construction.

Tan admired the administration of Mayor Jonas Cortes for undertaking the project which is locally-funded.

The other issue that the MCCI has brought to Cortes is the flooding.

Tan is hoping that the drainage master plan undertaken by the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board (MCDCB) would eventually solve the problem. (FREEMAN)
