CH casuals told not to work starting July

Rene U. Borromeo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered the more than 3,000 casual employees of city hall to stop reporting for work starting on July 1 unless their employment papers are being processed for renewal.

â€œYou are further advised that you are required to report on July 1, only if a renewal of your casual appointment shall have been processed,” Rama said in his Memorandum Order dated June 11.

The order was distributed to the different departments for posting.

Evangeline Abatayo, acting head of the Human Resource Development Office, said that as of yesterday her office still did not know how many of the over 3,000 casuals will be renewed.

The mayor said that a team of his trusted personnel is doing the review to determine who among the casuals will be renewed and who among those have to go.

Rama earlier said he does not want to work with the supporters of his political opponents, corrupt, and lazy employees, particularly those who saw intrigues among their fellow workers.

“Gikuyawan g’yud mi kay basin og tungod lang sa intriga mapasanginlan mi nga mikontra sa mayor unya dili na mi renyohan sa among kontrata. (We were nervous because our contracts may not be renewed because of intrigues),” said a female casual worker at the accounting department. (FREEMAN)
