Waterworks manager shot dead
CEBU, Philippines - The manager of a waterworks system in the town of Barili was shot to death by two men on a motorcycle in barangay Mantalongon last Friday afternoon.
Police identified the fatality as Jose Luiz “Boy†Subingsubing, 69, a resident of Barangay Tubod and serves as the manager of San Isidro Labrador Waterworks Association.
Investigation conducted by Barili Police initially showed that Subingsubing was riding on his motorcycle on his way home at around 3 pm last Friday when a man who covered his face with a towel approached and shot the victim several times.
The victim died immediately of several gunshot wounds in the body. He was still rushed to the Barili District Hospital but he no longer made it there alive.
Another man who drove a black motorcycle that had no plate numbers arrived and picked up the gunman before speeding off towards town proper.
Insp. Arvi Arbuiz, chief of Barili Police Station, said they are eyeing illegal drugs as possible motive behind the killing.
He said the victim is currently on bail for an illegal drug case and is also in their list of drug pushers in the town. He surmised that the victim was killed by his cohort in the illegal drug trade.
Barely a year ago, police arrested Subingsubing and two others after they were caught sniffing shabu at an abandoned house. (FREEMAN)
