Pablo recognized for exemplary leadership

CEBU, Philippines - The House of Representatives yesterday recognized outgoing second district representative Pablo Garcia for his exemplary leadership as Deputy House Speaker of the 15th Congress.

Suspended governor and incoming third district representative Gwendolyn Garcia received the plaque on behalf of her father.

Cebuano legislators, together with other legislators were also given recognition for their collective efforts in crafting legislative measures that have great impact to the national community.

Congress, in its Pagpupugay sa mga Kinatawan Ika-15 Kongreso, gave a plaques of recognition to first time members including Rachel del Mar (Cebu City North District), Tomas Osmena (Cebu City South District), Arturo Radaza (Lapu-Lapu’s Lone District), Gabriel Luis Quisumbing (6th District) and Benhur Salimbangon (4th District).

Salimbangon said that the recognition serves as a reminder that the 16th Congress is his second term and not his third term.

It can recalled that in 2007, Salimbangon became a member of the 14th Congress after he was declared winner in the congressional race of the fourth district of Cebu.

However, a few month before the 2010 election, former Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Tining” Martinez III won in his election protest and was declared winner by the Supreme Court.

Martinez was able to serve as congressman but only for a week before the end of the 14th Congress.

Pablo and his son, outgoing third district congressman Pablo John Garcia, were also given plaque of recognition as second term members while  Cebuano legislators Eduardo Gullas (1st district) and Red Durano (5th district) were recognized for being last termer legislators.

Durano won a fresh mandate as vice mayor in Danao City while Gullas lost his bid to be mayor of Talisay City.

Pablo also lost to PB Member Wilfredo Caminero as representative of the second district of Cebu while Pablo John lost in the gubernatorial race to Hilario Davide III.

Today will be the 15th Congress’ last day of session. — (FREEMAN)
