The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In preparation of this year’s Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines on June 29, the GREENIN Philippines Program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) conducted a province-wide coordination meeting with representatives from different local government units last May 22 at the RAFI ‘s Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (EADSC).

Eighteen focal persons of the different LGUs attended the meeting, which aimed to put the advocacies of the GREENIN Philippines program into action through the running and planting event. Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines provides a venue for every LGU to participate in forest development activities in order to expand and enhance the country’s forest cover through planting native trees.

During the meeting, a presentation of the 2011 and 2012 LGU contributions in terms of number of Run 2 Plant participants, seedlings planted, and survival rate were presented.

This initiative of RAFI is under its Integrated Development unit Generation REdemption, and Expansion of Natural resources INitiatives in the Philippines (GREENIN) Philippines Program to ensure environmental sustainability by reversing the loss of environmental resources through the utilization of native tree species in its interventions in restoring and rehabilitating degraded forests and idle lands.
