CITOM to use GPS to monitor traffic during road closure for Gabii sa Kabilin

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Traffic Operations and Management (CITOM) head Rafael Yap said they will be using their new Global Positioning System (GPS) to monitor traffic during Gabii Sa Kabilin on May 31.

Yap said several major roads will be closed from 6:00 p.m. to 12 midnight for the yearly event organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI).

“Aside from that, there will also be buses to take participants from museum to museum outside the walking tour area,” Yap said.

According to a statement from RAFI, the following streets will be closed on Gabii sa Kabilin: Lopez Jaena; Mabini from corner Bonifacio Street to corner Urdaneta Street; Ballesteros; P.Burgos, from Urdaneta Street to M.C. Briones Street, from D. Jakosalem to Mabini Street, and Osmeña Boulevard, from D. Jakosalem Street to M.C. Briones Street.

Yap assured motorists and participants that the roads mentioned will not be busy and they will not be congested, since Gabii sa Kabilin will be held on a Friday night.

Thirty-three museums all over Metro Cebu will be open to the public on the night of May 31. Aside from visiting museums, participants will also get to watch cultural shows and taste local cuisine.

Unlimited bus rides and a tartanilla (horse-drawn carriage) trip will be available for participants within the city’s old district.

Tickets for the event are available for P150, while children aged seven and below can participate for free.
