Joavan faces 3 more cases in court

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Three more criminal charges were filed in court yesterday against the notorious adopted son of outgoing Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez.

The city prosecutor’s office in Talisay elevated before the court the charges for illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives, and violation of the Comelec gun ban against Joavan Fernandez.

City prosecutor Marshal Rubia recommended P50,000 bail for illegal possession of firearm and P60,000 for violation of the Comelec gun ban. He was not allowed to post bail for illegal possession of explosives.

The Regional Trail Court in Cebu City has raffled off the three charges to Branch 10 Judge Soliver Peras.

Joavan was arrested by the elements of Talisay City Police last May 6 by virtue of a bench warrant issued by Judge Mario Manayon of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC).

Joavan failed to attend his hearing for slight physical injury prompting Manayon to order for his arrest. He was served with the warrant at his father’s residence at Southgates Subdivision in Barangay Bulacao.

During his arrest, the police recovered a 9mm pistol with four live ammunitions and a hand grenade. He however escaped from detention few days ago.

Since his escape, the police have been hunting him. In fact, he was already declared Cebu’s public enemy number 1. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
