4.2 quake jolts Cebu, Negros
CEBU, Philippines - A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Cebu City yesterday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the tremor was recorded at 9:38am. It was located 10.48°N, 123.47°E - 009 km N 86° E of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Intensity IV was felt in Cebu City and Toledo City.
Although the epicenter was in San Carlos City but the same intensity was felt in Cebu City because of the alleged softness of soil in Cebu.
Balamban, Cebu experienced intensity III, Iloilo City, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental and Calatrava, Negros Occidental felt intensity II while Canlaon City had intensity I.
“Yong lupa sa Cebu medyo malambot yong position ng lupa diyan kaya naka-experience kayo ng the same intensity like San Carlos City, which was the location,†said JP Fallarme, a research specialist of Phivolcs.
Phivolcs reported no aftershocks and damage.
“Hindi naman masyadong delikado yong nangyari kanina (yesterday) kasi wala namang pinsala na naidulot yong lindol kanina,†Fallarme said. (FREEMAN)
