Parties ready for Miting de Avanci

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A week away from election day, local candidates and political parties have already scheduled their respective Miting de Avance, their last attempt to lay out their platforms and get the support of the constituents.

Local candidates of the Liberal Party (LP) will have their Miting de Avance on May 8 at the Cebu Technological University grounds in Argao, South of Cebu, the hometown of gubernatorial candidate Atty. Hilario "Junjun" Davide III.

Ethel Natera, Davide's spokesperson, said the event will mostly be attended by second district bets but other partymates and supporters from all over the province are invited.

"Besides, the other towns and cities have their own Miting de Avance, wherein Atty. Jun and Ma'am Agnes are also invited," said Natera.

Also, they are expecting some LP senatorial candidates, said Natera, but are still waiting for confirmation from their national counterpart.

Natera said the event in Argao will be a big affair although they could not yet give an estimate of the expected crowd.

Independent candidate for vice governor, Glenn Soco, said that they are tentatively planning his Miting de Avance in Mandaue City where he resides.

Part of the plans is to have a motorcade in the sixth district and will end with a rally.

Soco also formally launched his candidacy in Mandaue City last March 30 during the start of the local campaign period where family members showed their support including Soco's father, former city councilor Guillermo "Momoy" Soco.

Soco was nominated by the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino of former president Joseph Ejercito Estrada but has been campaigning alone.

PMP has an alliance with the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) of Vice President Jejomar Binay consequently forming the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

UNA is supporting the candidacy of One Cebu's gubernatorial candidate Pablo John "PJ" Garcia and runningmate, Ramon "Boboy" Durano.

Another independent candidate, radio and TV blocktimer Roliveth "Boyet" Cortes said he will not have any Miting de Avance since he is an independent candidate.

But he said that this does not mean that his chances are slim as compared to his opponents.

He said that he only plans to do handshaking since he has gone around the province and is confident he has done enough to lay out his platforms.
