CPPO has best intel bureau in Central Visayas

Ria Mae Y. Booc - Banat

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) is the top performer in the Overall Intelligence Performance Evaluation Rating among other intelligence units for the first quarter of this year.

CPPO bested other intelligence units of Negros Oriental, Bohol, Siquijor, Mandaue City, Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City.

The rating of intelligence units was conducted by the Regional Intelligence Branch (RID) 7.  This is done quarterly and was started in May last year during the stint of Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas as the RID-7 chief.

Supt. Rodolfo Albotra, PIB chief said, his secret is to always aim high not just to please their commander but to please oneself at the end of the day.

"I told them (personnel) to go an extra mile in doing their job and take consideration their security and self-preservation," Albotra said.

He added they do not merely deliver what is expected but they do research and develop it.

The arrest of the members of the Francisco "Boyet" Ariva's group in Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion last March 21 is considered as the biggest accomplishment of the PIB in the first quarter of this year.

Operatives of the PIB, RID and the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (RAIDSOTG) shot dead Vicente Bayon Judaya, Ian Siacol, Jerson Resme and Rene Boy Tarriao in a shootout during the operation.

They also arrested Jerry Bugtai, Danilo Alcachupas and Elvira Manlise.

Ariva eluded arrest during the operation but decided to surrender two days after.

Recovered during the operation was a .357 revolver, a .380 pistol, a .38 revolver, a 9mm pistol, two .45 pistols, three hand grenades, assorted ammunition and empty shells.

Illegal drugs seized were 346 small, two medium and seven large packs of shabu estimated to worth P300,000, drug paraphernalia and P7,560 cash.

"After the group was neutralized, the rampant distribution of illegal drugs stopped and wala na pud kaayo killings," Albotra said, adding that their accomplishment was not only for them but also, it created impact on the community.

Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, CPPO director, had commended the PIB for this accomplishment. — (FREEMAN)
