Jail doubles water ration
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center yesterday doubled its water ration from outside since its water pump broke down last Saturday.
CPDRC acting jail warden Romeo Manansala said that the Capitol delivered 12 truckloads of water, each at six cubic meters, for the past two days.
The Office of the Provincial Engineering yesterday has already prepared the papers needed for the purchase of a new submersible pump that will cost around P400,000.
The broken 20 horsepower pump was purchased in 2004 at P180,000 including installation. Manansala earlier said that overheating may have caused the pump to break down last Saturday dawn.
Manansala said that he is hoping the pump will be installed tomorrow or the next day.
Manansala said that they plan to get water supply from the nearby Pagtambayayong Foundation Inc. but it will cause the low water pressure to the residents.
The rationed water is used for drinking, cooking and flushing waste from the jail’s 120 toilets.
The jail only allows each of its 1,617 inmates to take a bath every other day. —(FREEMAN)
