Barili VM to prioritize tourism, health if elected mayor

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Giving focus on tourism development, health and social services  are the priorities of Barili Vice Mayor Marlon Garcia if he get elected as mayor of the town in the coming May elections.

Marlon, who is running under One Cebu Party headed by his sister, suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, explained that his town can no longer compete with its neighboring local government units in terms of industrialization.

“The City of Carcar and Dumanjug town are already industrialized. We cannot compete with them anymore,” he said.

Garcia has been emphasizing this program during his meetings with community leaders in different barangays.

The town is the home to the Mantayupan Falls, which is known as the tallest waterfalls in Cebu.

Aside from tourism, Vice Mayor Garcia also promised better health and social services.

Garcia criticized the present administration of Mayor Teresito Mariñas who is seeking reelection for not providing free emergency vehicles.

“Instead, the mayor asks for a P1,000 fee for every use of the municipal ambulance,” said the vice mayor.

Garcia vowed to remove the ambulance fee and provide cash aid to patients like what his brother, Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia is doing.

Marlon also pledged to provide burial assistance to his constituents, build water systems in upland barangays and pave barangay roads.

Out of the 42 barangays of Barili, 38 are allied with One Cebu. All of the town councilors are also One Cebu members.

Barili is part of Cebu’s third congressional now represented by Rep. Pablo John “PJ” Garcia who is running for governor.
