CPPO asked: Heighten patrolling, visibility

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board has urged the Cebu Provincial Police Office and all its units to heighten the patrolling and visibility within the province for the upcoming May 13 elections.

Board Member Sun Shimura, who chairs the PB committee on public order and safety, made the request through a resolution recently passed following the arrest of two suspected goons in his hometown, Daanbantayan.

“The arrest of suspected goons in Pajo, Daanbantayan is not a minute issue that is bereft of any importance with regard to the maintenance of peace and order,” Shimura said.

Shimura believes that the upcoming May 13 elections could have been the primary intent of the presence of these individuals in order to hamper the conduct of an honest and fair election.

He said that police patrolling and visibility in all areas, most especially in identified hot spots, are indeed of great help in the prevention of any unlawful undertakings and activities.

Shimura also called on the CPPO to hasten the investigation on the arrest of the suspected goons who were identified as Henry Pepito and Hervin Martinez.

Pepito was reportedly in possession of a .38 revolver while Martinez was in possession of a caliber .45 pistol.

Shimura said that it is a paramount concern to determine the facts surrounding the aforementioned incident.

In a separate resolution, Shimura also called on the CPPO to further investigate the strafing incident involving a businessman in sitio Camansili, barangay Binabag in Bogo City.

The victim, Camilo Becaldo, 65, was reportedly attacked by a motorcycle-riding gunman last February 25, the same day when the suspected goons in Daanbantayan were also arrested. (FREEMAN)
