1 injured in 2 fire incidents

CEBU, Philippines -  A day after the Bureau of Fire Protection kicked off the Fire Prevention Month observance, two separate fire incidents destroyed two houses in Cebu City and Dalaguete town.

One man was wounded in the Cebu City fire.

 Tolentino Sentino, brother of Joel, the owner of the destroyed house, was injured after he tried to save some belongings put out the fire at around 4:25 in the morning yesterday.

  He suffered minor burns in his hands and was given first aid treatment.

  The auto shop and the semi-concrete house of Joel were located along Gorordo Ave.,Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. His Kia Pride vehicle was also razed.

  Initial investigation of the Cebu City Fire Station revealed that the fire started at the room of Joel on the second floor of the house after a loud burst was heard.

  The fire was controlled within seven minutes before it was totally put out at 4:40 a.m.

  FO3 Emiliano Daño, fire investigator, said they could not yet determine the real cause pending further investigation.

He pegged the damage at P250,000.

The fire was raised to second alarm. Barangay fire brigades and fire volunteers also responded the alarm.

  Meanwhile, a businessman’s house was also destroyed by fire in Sitio Dibdib, Barangay Sacsac, Dalaguete Friday around 7:25 in the evening.

  Donesio Navarrete, 66, widow, was not around when the fire struck his semi-concrete bungalow type of house and his sari-sari store.

The fire reportedly started at the kitchen of the house but the fire investigator is yet to verify its cause.

A motorcycle-for-hire driver reportedly noticed fire coming from the house about 20 meters away which prompted him to seek assistance.

The fire was raised to first alarm.  No one was reported injured.

FO3 Jundy Deposa, Dalaguete fire investigator, said Navarrete’s neighbors lived several meters away.

“Lagyo man pud gud ug silingan unya elevated pud ang lugar,” Deposa said in a phone interview.

The house was already destroyed when fire fighters arrived.

Deposa pegged the damage at P92,000. (FREEMAN)
