CEBU, Philippines - Two died and seven others were injured, including a barangay captain, when a government-issued multicab they were riding rammed a tree while traveling on the provincial road of Sitio Kanotse, Barangay Campo, San Francisco Thursday afternoon.

Declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Ricardo Maningo District Hospital were Maximo Miao and Renee Nudalo, both of legal age and residents of Sitio Kinyawan, Barangay Campo.

Those who were injured were Western Poblacion barangay captain, Donaire Rocacurva, 50; Gloria Nudalo, 52 and Wilfredo Fernandez, both of Barangay Southern Poblacion; Ronnie Otida , 34; Alma Daligdig, 35; and Julito Daligdig, all of Barangay Campo; as well as Alex Miao Formentera, of Barangay Western Poblacion.

Only Fernandez and Formentera remained at the Ricardo Maningo District Hospital while the five others were referred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Insp. Eduard Sanchez, San Francisco police chief, said Rocacurva was driving the government-issued pick-up type multicab bearing plate number SJY-777 and traveling towards Barangay Northern Poblacion.

Sanchez said the group reportedly came from a birthday celebration of a friend in Barangay Campo.

Rocacurva was reportedly under the influence of liquor and was driving at a high speed.

Sanchez told The FREEMAN that Rocacurva overtook a motorcycle he was tailing and suddenly lost control of the steering wheel causing the vehicle to ram a Gemelina tree along the road.

Sanchez said they are still waiting for the family of the victims to appear at their office for the filing of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries against Rocacurva.  (FREEMAN)
