Minglanilla’s brgy dads ask if they still get projects

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Majority of Minglanilla’s barangay captains met with Acting Governor Agnes Magpale and Liberal Party’s gubernatorial candidate Hilario Davide III yesterday to ask if they will still receive the projects that suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia committed to give.

During the closed-door meeting attended by 17 out of the 19 barangay captains of the town, Magpale briefed the barangay captains of the financial situation of the Province since she assumed office on December 19, last year.

But Magpale assured that the checks that Garcia issued but were not claimed will be replaced and released to the barangays.

Ward 4 Barangay Captain Antero Caña Jr. said they are happy that they can still receive the financial assistance particularly.

Even with the presence of Davide in the meeting, Magpale as well as the barangay captains said they did not discuss politics.

“He (Davide) must have been invited by the barangay captains,” Magpale said.

Davide said he attended the meeting because he knows some of the barangay captains.

“I know some of the capitanes, one of them even supported me in 2010. I thought I should meet some of them also,” Davide said.

Tungkil Barangay Captain Manolo Delgado, the president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) confirmed that Magpale and Davide did not ask for their commitment of support and they also did not give theirs.

But he admitted that it was Magpale’s office who invited them to the meeting.

Magpale pledged P200,000 to the ABC for the upcoming  Kabanhawan Festival on Easter Sunday and another P100,000 to the municipal government.

Delgado said that amount shall be divided equally among the ten festival contingents.

Town and barangay officials of Minglanilla earlier expressed support to the candidates of One Cebu Party in the 2013 election led by its gubernatorial candidate, third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia.

Gov. Garcia, Pablo John and his runningmate, former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV attended the Local Development Council meeting led by Mayor Eduardo Selma last year.

Selma is a member of Alayon Party headed by first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, an ally of One Cebu in the past elections.

Selma, in the said meeting, assured One Cebu their support.

He explained that Minglanilla received several projects since the time of then governor and now Deputy Speaker Pablo Garcia until during the term Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. (FREEMAN)
