CEBU, Philippines - As election season is here, Dilaab Foundation Inc. , a non-government organization is urging local candidates to answer their LASER test and so far, they are getting a few response.

Jenny Tan, project coordinator for Dilaab Foundation’s Circles of Discernment for Empowerment, urged local candidates to provide important information to give the voters idea an on who to vote for in the upcoming national and local elections.

Tan said that the foundation has already disseminated the LASER questionnaires to candidates in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapu-Lapu.

Tan, in a statement released by the Philippine Information Office-7, said that only 16 percent of the candidates answered the test. The group hopes to get at least 50 percent.

LASER stands for Lifestyle, Action, Supporters, Election Conduct and Reputation. It consists of specific questions corresponding to each letter in the acronym. It is a tool designed by the Dilaab movement to help voters discern and make up their mind, and for the candidates to check if they are really the right ones for the job, the foundation’s website reads.

Answers to the test will be posted on the foundation website, www.dilaab.net, which will be launched on February 15, 2013.

The statement added that Cebu voters can read the answers of the candidates in their areas on the website.

Former DILG secretary and then Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo was one of the first to answer the LASER test when it was first released six years ago. (FREEMAN)
