Man kills wife of brother-in-law
CEBU, Philippines - Suspecting that the wife of his brother-in-law was dating another guy, a man shot the woman dead in Mohon 1, Barangay Tisa, late Thursday night.
Benito Loreto alias “Tatay Boyâ€, 42, reportedly shot 33-year-old Vivian Moran dead. Moran, who sells herbal medicine as a living, is the wife of Loreto’s brother-in-law, who died of a lung disease in November.
Investigation revealed that Moran was drinking liquor with her friends, Celirena Dalogdog and Jay Cullamat, outside her residence when Loreto arrived and joined them.
Later, an argument erupted between Moran and Loreto when the latter confronted her for neglecting her four children.
Dalogdog said she left the place with Cullamat to allegedly urinate when she heard bursts of gunfire moments later.
“Nasuko man si Kuya Boy ana kay pasagdan lang daw ang mga bata, wala atimana, gi-una lang daw ang laki. Mao to ilang gilalisan, unya wala lang ko manghilabot kay ila baya na. Mibiya ko kay nag-CR, pagbalik nako nahagba na siya. (Kuy Boy was mad at her for neglecting the children and prioritizing her lover. They argued and I didn’t interfere because it was personal. I went to the CR & when I came back, she was already down),†Dalogdog alleged.
Dalogdog then saw her friend bleeding profusely with a gunshot wound on her right ear. The victim died immediately.
The suspect reportedly drove a motorcycle and fled the area.
SPO2 Herbert Diola of the City Intelligence Branch, who responded to the call for assistance, arrested the suspect an hour later at the barangay’s public market.
The suspect denied shooting the victim.
“Naglagot lagi ko, pero taman ra sa paglagot. Gusto nako nga atimanon niya iyang mga anak, mao ra na, wa koy giplano nga kutloon iyang kinabuhi. Unsa man ug patyon nako si Vivian, kinsa ma’y mubuhi ana, kami maproblema, (I was mad but I did not plan on killing her. I just want her to take care of the kids. If I kill her, who will take care of the kids? They will become our burden,) †he said, referring to Moran’s four children, the eldest aged six.
But SPO4 Rey Cuyos, Homicide Section team leader, said Dalogdog and her companions saw a gun tucked in Loreto’s waist when he joined their drinking session. The witness allegedly even joked to Loreto that she would borrow the gun.
The witness also saw the suspect fall down from the motorcycle in his hurry to escape after shooting Moran, Cuyos added.
Police detained the suspect at the Punta Princesa Police Station and will file charges against him. (FREEMAN)
