Terminal fee to be included in ticket cost

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Effective March 1, the terminal fee of P200 for travelers using the Mactan Cebu International Airport will be included in the cost of airline tickets.

A memorandum of agreement was signed yesterday between the management of Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) headed by General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete and top officials of the airline companies operating in Mactan.

Mary Ann Dimabayao, officer-in-charge of the MCIAA Public Affairs Office said the agreement will decongest the departure area of the airport and will be more convenient for passengers.

The passengers will just pass initial security screening upon entering the terminal, check in to get their boarding passes, and pass the final security check because they no longer need to line up to pay terminal fees.

The airline companies will be the one to remit their collection to the MCIAA.

The Mactan airport is designed to serve 4.5 million passengers but it is serving 6.7 million passengers every year.

The signing of the agreement yesterday were attended by  Inigo Zobel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Philippines Corporation; Ismael Augusto Gozon, Senior Vice President-Airline Operations of Philippine Airlines, Inc.; Antonio Jose Rodriguez, Vice President-Airport Service of Cebu Air Inc.; Linda Olivia Ramos, President and Chief Executive Officer of SEAIR Inc. and Arturo Alejandro, Director of Best Airways Inc.

Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale and members of the MCIAA board also attended the signing. – (FREEMAN)
