No politicians join Magpale in aid distribution

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Acting Governor Agnes Magpale distributed cash aid to barangay workers in Medellin yesterday without politicians joining the activity.

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez, an ally of suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, confirmed that she asked Magpale's office not to bring politicians during the activity.

Ramirez said he, Vice Mayor Alfonso Lim and the town councilors welcomed Magpale as it was an official function.

Ramirez revealed that prior to the activity, someone went to his office to get a permit.

This made him suspect that politicians might be joining Magpale.

Ramirez did not give a permit saying it is not necessary because it is an official event of the province.

But Ramirez called up Magpale's office to ask them not to bring her political allies during the distribution.

Ramirez thanked Magpale for heeding his request and did not even talk about politics in her speech.

Magpale has just explained that the distribution of the cash aid was delayed because she had to review Capitol's finances when she assumed as acting governor on December 19, 2012.

But Ramirez assured that candidates under the Liberal Party are welcome to campaign in his town.

Magpale distributed yesterday cash aid for barangay health workers, tanods, barangay nutrition scholars, day care workers and barangay animal health aides.

Recipients from adjacent town of Daanbantayan also gathered at the Medellin Cultural Complex to receive the delayed Christmas gift in the amount of P2,400 each as promised by suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Cristina Giango, said that they assisted Magpale together with the staff from the Provincial Treasurer's Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Magpale is an ally of Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. whose son, former Rep. Celestino “Tining” Martinez III, is running for congressman under LP.

Junie and Tining were reportedly present in the distribution last Monday in Bogo City where recipients from San Remegio and Tabuelan also came.

Tomorrow, Magpale will resume the distribution in Tabogon, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon and Carmen. — (FREEMAN)
