Magpale can hire staff until March 29

AJ de la Torre -

CEBU, Philippines -  Acting Governor Agnes Magpale is allowed to hire new staff until March 29.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Provincial Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano explained that transfers and promotions, hiring and appointments of government employees are allowed until the said date.

Castillano said that only those personnel or staff who need to be transferred to another office would need a formal request from the Comelec Regional Office.

The chief of staff of Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale and as well as of Acting Vice Governor Julian Daan will meet on Saturday with the Human Resource Department to discuss the movement of their respective staff members.

There is a possibility that Magpale’s staff will be working for the acting vice governor.

This means Magpale would need to hire new staff.

On the possibility of hiring the staff of suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to work for her, Magpale admitted that it would be hard.

“It’s quite difficult. You would need to have the trust and confidence of your staff,” she said.

Except for those who went on leave and those who resigned, Magpale said that the contract of Garcia’s staff who were hired through a manpower service was extended for two months while those who are co-terminus with the suspended governor will still be employed until Garcia’s term ends.

But Castillano said they have not received any letter from the office of Magpale or Daan on the transfer of personnel.

The request for transfer must specify the need for it and must also indicate that there is no election purpose of the movement.  (FREEMAN)
