Dog digs murder victim buried in shallow grave

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A fisherman’s dog found a dead body buried in a shallow grave along the beach in Barangay Poblacion, Argao yesterday morning.

The policemen in Argao identified the victim as Reynaldo Llorando Carillo, 54, of the same barangay. He was found to have an injury in the head believed to have caused by a hard object.

Police Officer 1 Reynato Nacaytuna said the victim was discovered by Jimmy Mancao and his dog at 4:00 am yesterday.  Mancao went out on the beach to check the weather condition before going out into the sea to go on fishing.

But his dog invited his attention to a shallow grave where Carillo was buried in the sand. The dog reportedly dug the grave and found the victim’s body.

Mancao immediately reported what his dog has discovered to the police station. Nacaytuna said they are still investigating the incident. The police have yet to determine the motive and the identity of the assailant.

Based on the initial investigation, the victim is often drunk. In fact, he had been a victim of several violent incidents in the past because of his being a drunkard.

“Pirmi na ni siya masukmagan ug mabunalan kung mahubog kay mukalit og apil sa tapok unya naay dili kauyon pero wa lang gihapon mutagam,” Nacaytuna said.— (FREEMAN)
