NBI nabs maker of fake documents

CEBU, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation-7 arrested on Monday a maker of fake documents in Sanciangko Street, Cebu City.

Rey Vincent Rosas, 40, was caught in the act of selling fake documents to an undercover agent during an entrapment operation at 3:30 p.m. following a complaint from the Land Transportation Office.

NBI agent Atty. Bernard dela Cruz said that LTO-7 director Raul Aguilos requested for an investigation into the alleged falsification of Official Receipts and Certificates of Registration perpetrated by Rosas.

“We were shown of a fake OR and CR by Aguilos,” Dela Cruz said.

Dela Cruz said they conducted surveillance operations against Rosas for over a month to confirm his illegal activity. According to dela Cruz, upon confirmation he hired the services of the suspect to make a falsified OR and CR under his name. The suspect allegedly demanded P1,000 for his service.

The NBI agents waited for two to three hours before the fake documents were finished. Dela Cruz said as soon as the documents were done they immediately placed him under arrest.

Aside from the fake OR and CR the NBI ordered, various documents such as diploma, transcript of records, bank certificates and other accountable forms were also recovered in his shop during the operation.

Dela Cruz said Rosas will be charged for violation of Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code or falsification by private individual and use of falsified documents.

Under the law, if person is found guilty, he or she should suffer the penalty of prison correctional or a maximum of six years imprisonment and a fine of not more than P5,000.— (FREEMAN)
